Man Jumps To Death From Backyard Of San Juan Capistrano Home: OCSD

Police and fire responded to a San Juan Capistrano neighborhood where a man jumped to his death, Friday.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A man jumped from the backyard of the family's San Juan Capistrano residence Friday morning, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

"A 911 call was made at just after 10:45 a.m. Friday to the 26000 block of Via La Mirada in San Juan Capistrano," OCSD Lt. Lane Lagaret said.

The caller's son reported that his father had or was about to jump from the backyard that overlooks a large ravine, according to Lagaret.

Orange County Fire Authority were first to respond to the call.

"A person was initially reported to have fallen down, 75 feet in a ravine," OCFA Captain Al Wilkes said. "OCFA responded to the scene and determined that the man was in fact deceased."

Orange County Sheriff's Department officers are now responding to the scene of recovery, that was a suicide according to OCSD.

"This has been reported as a suicide," Lane Lagaret said.

Orange County Fire Authority emergency responders were called off for recovery of the deceased.


This story was updated that the man jumped from the backyard into the ravine, not the balcony as previously reported.
