Man Tased By Cops, Dies At Hospital: OCSD

He was "behaving erratically" at San Juan businesses when deputies "tased" him. One hour later, he was dead.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A man who was tased by officers after resisting arrest later died at an area hospital, an Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said.

The sheriff's department was called at approximately 4:45 p.m. Monday when a man in his 20s was "acting erratically" near businesses off Camino Capistrano and Del Obispo Street, in San Juan Capistrano, Carrie Braun told Patch.

He was "going in and out of businesses" in an erratic way, she said. Deputies responded and made contact with the man and the situation turned quickly for the worse, according to report.

"While attempting to arrest him, he resisted and Tasers were deployed," she said. The man became unresponsive and deputies, along with the Orange County Fire Authority paramedics administered CPR on the scene.

The man was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, and pronounced deceased one hour after the incident began.

Cause of death is not yet known, and an investigation is underway, Braun said. Next of kin notification has not yet been made, and the man's name is being withheld until that time. It is not yet known if the suspect was a transient, or had consumed drugs or alcohol prior to the event.

This incident will be investigated by the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
