Mission Basilica School Loves The Arts!

At Mission Basilica School fine arts are integrated into the curriculum and play an important role in each student’s education.Β  The students enjoy twice weekly music classes, a Meet the Masters art program, dance training and participation in the Class Act Program.Β  The Orange County Pacific Symphony sponsors the Class Act Program in which a classical composer is chosen each year and the students enjoy lectures, musical concerts and enhanced curriculum in the classroom focusing on that composer.Β  This year’s Class Act composer is George Gershwin, one of the most significant American composers of the 20th century.Β  Last week, the students performed to George Gershwin tunes during the culminating Bravo Assembly to demonstrate to family, friends and Pacific Symphony personnel what they had learned throughout the year.Β  Β The audience loved the dance numbers to such songs as second grade’s cute clowns dancing to β€œFunny Face,” sixth grade showing their best disco moves to β€œRhapsody in Blue” and fifth grades’ hip hop number to β€œI’ve Got Rhythm” just to name a few. Β Β The festively costumed students wowed the crowd as they all came together for a rousing rendition of Gershwin’s β€œStrike Up the Band” for the grand finale.Β  Bravo MBS!Β
