San Juan Capistrano's bird-town is an organic community project that has grown over the years, with residents of all ages leaving their hand-crafted birdhouses, bird feeders and garden stones in the trail's brush and abundant trees.

Esther Avila-Young is a San Juan Capistrano resident of nearly ten years. She snapped these photographs of San Juan Capistrano's bird-town on New Year's Day and posted them onto Facebook, writing: "Hiking on San Juan creek trail and found this. I guess people can come here and add bird feeders, garden stones or whatever garden items they want to show."

One Facebook commenter wrote that the bird houses had been in place for a "long" time, but the amount of bird houses had significantly grown since the last time she saw it. She also wrote that her granddaughter made a bird house some years ago and added it to the community's collection.

While it is not known whether or not San Juan Capistrano's bird-town is an official project, we at Patch can say this: this community effort is by the humans, and for the birds.
