New Girl's Head Golf Coach Joins J Serra School

J Serra School announces new head girl's golf coach, joining the school for the 2018/19 season.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — The Lions have named Emily Beane (née Guthrie) as JSerra Girls Golf Head Coach. Beane joins JSerra after serving in the same role at her alma mater Whitworth University (Spokane, WA) during the 2017-18 season.

"We are thrilled to have Coach Beane join the organization," said JSerra Athletic Director Chris Ledyard. "Her passion and knowledge for the sport radiates and her success as a collegiate athlete speaks for itself."

Prior to her role as head coach, Beane joined the Whitworth golf program as the assistant coach in charge of the women's team in 2013-14. She guided the Pirates to back-to-back third place finishes in the NWC standings in 2014 and 2015 and led the Bucs to a share of the title at the 2015 NWC Spring Classic.

Beane was a dual-sport standout during her four years at Whitworth, accumulating honors in both golf and basketball. For her outstanding career as a pirate, she earned the 2013 Dennis Spurlock Award, which recognizes the student-athlete who models the characteristics of the award's namesake — specifically modesty, poise, and leadership.

In golf, Beane made three trips to the NCAA Division III golf championships. In 2013, she posted her highest individual finish, tying for 12th place. As a junior she finished 20th individually at the national tournament after earning Northwest Conference Player of the Year honors. She was the Pirates' top player as a freshman, helping lead the Bucs to their only team appearance at the Women's NCAA Championships. Beane was named First Team All-NWC three out of the four years she played.

In basketball, Beane finished her career as Whitworth's all-time leader in three-point shooting, setting school records for career three pointers made (182) and attempted (526). As a junior she broke the school record for three-pointers made in a game, sinking eight in a victory over Lancaster Bible College. She was named Second Team All-NWC in 2013 and 2011.

Recently married, Beane is a native of Snohomish, WA and graduated from Snohomish High School in 2009. She studied Kinesiology and earned her bachelor's and Master's in Teaching at Whitworth.
