New Year, New You: Hike For Fitness In San Juan Capistrano 2020

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — What is your New Year's resolution for 2020? For many, it's getting up and getting active. But there is no reason for you to spend the money on joining a gym in Orange County! not when the great outdoors is beckoning from Orange County Parks.

The OC Parks folks shared their January 2020 Events Calendar for all OC Parks venues with Patch, including regional, wilderness and historical parks, sites, and beaches.

Some highlight activities this month include:

• January 4 - Wilderness Access Day at Black Star Canyon Wilderness Park
• January 4 - Modjeska's Holiday Open House at Arden: Helena Modjeska Historic House and Gardens
• January 5 - Santiago Oaks Guided Nature Hike at Santiago Oaks Regional Park
• January 18 - Irvine Regional Park Fishing Derby at Irvine Regional Park
• January 18 - Star Light, Star Bright Night Hike at Carbon Canyon Regional Park

Start right away in San Juan Capistrano with the January 4 – Wilderness Access Day: Black Star Canyon from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Black Star Canyon offers pleasant introductory trails for beginner hikers and families, as
well as challenging experiences for seasoned trail users. Designated trails are available
for self-guided hiking, biking and equestrian use. A variety of loops offer extended
exploration throughout the canyons. Take time to explore the local plant communities and
beautiful scenery in easy 30-minute walks or take in 7 miles in a strong cardio trek.

January 4 – Modjeska’s Holiday Open House 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The holiday is in full swing at the historic Modjeska House and Gardens. Holiday trees
are adorned with dried fruit garlands, with miniature candles and Polish-inspired ornaments adding to the festive flair. Rooms filled with glowing candles and seasoned with pine and mistletoe create a wonderful sense of times gone by. Enjoy the home and gardens this holiday with family and friends. Enjoy hot cocoa and the famous Modjeskas, a caramel marshmallow that Madame Modjeska approved herself.

January 4 – Volunteer Led Hike 12 – 1 p.m.
Join Caspers Park Foundation volunteers for a one-mile guided nature hike in the
beautiful Bell Canyon area of Caspers Wilderness Park. Hike lasts approximately one
hour and is suitable for all ages.
