Orange County Sheriff's Deputies Ready for Push 22 Veteran Suicide Awareness Campaign

22 veterans commit suicide every day. With Push 22, OCSD leads the charge for fundraising efforts involved in ending this silent tragedy.

San Juan Capistrano, CA--The Orange County Sheriff's Department is launching a campaign to enlist support, raise awareness and end veteran suicide in America.

"On average, 22 veterans commit suicide every day," OCSD stated on Instagram. "Push 22 is our way of raising awareness of this staggering statistic."

Starting July 22, volunteers at the Theo Lacy Facility will complete 22 push ups every hour for 22 hours.

"Heroes today don't wear capes, masks or mechanized suits," the website states. "Our heroes silently serve, provide aid around the world, and defend the freedom and quality of life that all of us enjoy. They are proud of their service and rarely ask for anything in return. They walk among us, often carrying the scars of their sacrifice."

The Push 22 challenge will raise funds for Infinite Hero Foundation's upcoming grant cycle, according to that organization's website.

"The department will raise funds internally, via the sale of t-shirts for Infinite Hero, as well as raising awareness," OCSD Lt. Mark Stichter said. "Raising awareness" both within the department, with other departments, and with the public is their primary goal.
