Preserving the Summer Harvest on September 26!
Make good with good food! Preserve your summer harvest with canning and pickling techniques.

As the summerβs harvest comes to an end, food preservation skills become even more valuable. By preserving food, you can stretch and store the harvest without spoiling or sacrificing quality, taste, or nutritional value. In fact, with many fermented foods, texture, taste, and nutritional value are all enhanced.
Explore topics of sanitation, sugaring, sealing and simple recipes for canning various goods. Get hands-on and make your own tomato sauce with fresh tomatoes from the garden, then, engage in a demonstration of how to make pickles through the process of lacto-fermentation.
Itβs healthy for us, but how is fermenting and preserving food healthy for our environment? The answer is less energy consumption by decreasing cooking time, fuel, and waste by preserving the harvest instead of dumping it in the trash. Incorporate fermenting and preservation into your arsenal of kitchen skills - your gut will thank you.
