Reality Check! CUSD Teachers Have Received Compensation Increases the Last Three Years
and -0- Salary Schedule Reductions Despite $152 Million Dollars In Budget Cuts Since 2007

While students have no District funded Art- Music - Science - Classes Sizes of 40 - no where to eat lunch (except on the ground)- insufficient water fountains - over crowded classrooms and a general lack of facilities maintenance.
The State’s new education funding law limits K-12 public education to 2007-08 levels + inflation by 2021. That will mean that CUSD will have flat funding at $7,500 - $8,500 for 14 years. Why should students and tax payers put up with that when State revenues in 2007-08 were $105 billion and today they are at a record high $123 billion. If employees want increased compensation AGAIN then they should stand with students and taxpayers and demand sufficient funding to provide EVERY student with a basic education.

During that same time period Unfunded Pension Liabilities increased from $49 million to $57 million
Capistrano Unified has cut $152 million from its budget since 2007-08. During that entire time frame Teachers Salary schedule was cut by 1.2% as a result of the 2010 teachers union strike. The 1.2% reduction was restored in 2013-14 using LCFF money that the State Warned Districts not to include in their budget.
See http://disclosurecusd.blogspot.com/2015/05/state-warns-school-districts-not-to-use.html
With employee compensation representing over 90% of the Districts budget- it is clear that budgets were balanced on the back of students, while the District protected employee compensation.
Let’s at least have an honest discussion about how the District should spend limited funds.
Raises for employees? or
Reduced class sizes, restoration of Art, Music and Science, Facilities maintenance?
That is where the discussion needs to begin.
A lack of adequate funding from the State pits what is in the best interest of students, against what is in the financial interest of employees.
