In April 2015, the LAUSD Board of Trustees awarded teachers a 10% salary increases while at the same time projected a $559 million deficit for the following two years. As a result, LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines commissioned an independent panel to review the Financial condition of LAUSD. The report has just been released and compares LAUSD to the Capistrano Unified School District and several other large Districts in the State. Most of the recommendations by the panel have already been made in CUSD to balance its budget since 2007, leaving some to wonder what actions are left for CUSD should the State have another economic downturn.
