San Juan Hills High Athletic Stars Make College Commitments

With Signing Day upon us, a boys basketball player and girls soccer team leader are the first to pledge for college teams.

Two talented athletes at San Juan Hills High School signed letters of intent today, pledging their skills to the United States Military Academy and Iowa State University.

Vincent McFadden has agreed to play basketball for the United States Military Academy while studying systems engineering. McFadden‘s accomplishments include:

• 4 year varsity letter winner

• Honorable Mention All Sea View League – Freshman

• 2nd Team All Sea View League – Sophomore

• 1st Team All Sea View League – Junior

• Academic Honor Roll during his 4 years

• 3.63 GPA

• Community service at the Mission Basilica’s Father Serra Food Pantry

• Breast Cancer Club

Soccer star Emily Steil will play for Iowa State University while majoring in business or elementary education. Her accomplishments include:

• 4 year varsity letter winner

• 2 year captain – Junior & Senior seasons

• Junior Season – Team Most Valuable Player & 1st Team All Sea View League

• Honorable Mention All Sea View League – Freshman

• 2nd Team All Sea View League – Sophomore

• 1st Team All Sea View League – Junior

• 3.31 GPA

• Played in the West Coast Futbol Club for the ECNL Team

• Has volunteered every year since she was 12 years old at Soccer for Hope

• Volunteered making the floats for the Rosa Parade

• Volunteered at the Special Olympics

“Emily is a true leader and a great example of what a student-athlete should be.” said Farrel Moore. “She is the hardest working player every time she steps on to the field and raises the level of everyone around her. Emily is an outstanding soccer player and a great role model for all.”
