What about Del Obispo’s “Community Roots”?

Our roots run deep! Del Obispo Elementary has been part of the San Juan Capistrano community since 1974. Dozens of our students are second generation Dragons. There is a true sense belonging -- a community with deep roots -- as our parents choose to stay and raise their kids in San Juan. We have confidence and pride in sending them to the school that helped shape our own lives and the lives of our friends and neighbors.

Del Obispo is surrounded by neighborhoods and our kids walk to school, from those neighborhoods, north, south, east and west. We want that for our children, we want our children to grow up and be active members in their own neighborhoods. We do not want them driven out of their city and sent to Dana Point. In addition, many of us bought our homes knowing our children could walk to school K-8, and knowing that should the time come that we need to sell our homes, it only made our property more desirable to future homeowners too. Del Obispo’s closure could very well adversely effect our home values, and what about traffic? CRA will have kids from all over the county who won a lottery spot to attend the school. This will result in additional traffic into our neighborhood from students who have to be driven to school, all while we will be forced to drive our own kids out of their own neighborhood, and out of town now that our neighborhood school is no longer available.
