SVCS Takes Control of San Joaquin League With Victory
Warriors improve to 4-0 in league play with 59-55 victory over a strong Fairmont Prep team behind Josh Markum's 22 points and Nick Worrell's 15.
Saddleback Valley Christian's boys basketball team rallied from a one-point deficit at the start of the fourth quater, built a seven-point lead with one minute to play, then held off Fairmont Prep to win, 56-52, in a battle of San Joaquin League favoritess Tuesday night at Fairmont Prep in Anaheim.
Senior guard Josh Markum scored a game-high 22 points and made all four of his free throws in the game's closing minutes, and sophomore center Nick Worrell added 15 points on strong play inside.
The Warriors (16-4, 4-0 in league), who came into the game ranked No. 13 in the CIF Southern Section Division 5A coaches' poll, next play on Jan. 25 at Fullerton High, where they will meet league foe Eastside Christian. Fairmont Prep, ranked No. 8 in Division 5AA, falls to 11-5 and 1-1.
