Who we elect to oversee the education of our students matters. Make sure to vote this election. Make sure to vote in the June 3rd primary.Β It is the best thing a parent can do to make the quality of education in our Public Schools better for our children.Β

I AM VOTING FOR MARSHALL TUCK.Β

Marshall Tuck, (Democrat)Β is aΒ 40 year oldΒ Harvard Business School graduate who has a proven history of being an educational reformer. He is a business man who hasΒ worked as an investment banker for Salomon Brothers and as an executive at Model N, a revenue-management software company.

Tuck was the former President of Green Dot Public Schools an organization that was founded in 1999 in direct response to the poor state of public high schools in Los Angeles County. Β Today Green Dot is the leading Charter School Operator in Los Angeles and one of the Top three in the nation.

In 2006Β Tuck served as theΒ first head of the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools a non-profit organization that was built in collaboration with the City of Los Angeles, LAUSD and over 1,000 public and Private Sector partners; with the goal of transforming 17 of LAUSD's lowest performing schools in Boyle Heights, Watts and South LA.

Marshall Tuck was instrumental in gettingΒ the American Civil Liberties Union and Public Counsel to file a class action lawsuit alleging seniority based layoffs unfairly deny low-income students equal access to a quality education. On April 8, 2014, the case was settled protectingΒ 37 of Los Angeles' most impoverished schools from disproportionate layoffs.

The Settlement can be read at:Β http://www.aclusocal.org/pr-reed-settlement/

Marshall Tuck is obviously not supported by the California Teachers Association who is endorsing the incumbent TomΒ Torlakson. Torlakson, a former teacher,Β has beenΒ an elected official for 35 years and is part of theΒ Education establishment that has failed California's students. Β In the 2010 election Unions spent $3.9 million to elect Torlakson. Β Torlakson is advocating for the extension of Prop 30 taxes.Β

Opponents to Tuck denounce his position using student test scores to evaluate teacher performance, and fear that he will move to Privatize California's public schools.

It's time for a change. Status quo is not working for our students.Β

Vote for Marshall Tuck on June 3, 2014.
