The Nations Largest Teachers Union is asking for Secretary of Education Arne Duncan Resignation

At a July 4, 2014 business meeting, the NEA voted to support anΒ agenda item calling for the resignation of Education Secretary Arne Duncan citing Duncan's support for the following:

  • The California court ruling that struck down teacher tenure laws as unconstitutional.
  • Charter Schools
  • Using student test scores to evaluate teacher performance.
The item passed ... "it was necessary to call for Duncan's resignation because of the 'department's failed education agenda focused on more high-stakes testing, grading and pitting public school students against each other based on test scores, and for continuing to promote policies and decisions that undermine public schools and colleges, the teaching education professionals, and education unions.'
