Traffic Alert: Ortega Highway Reopens Following Early Morning Collision

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA โ€” An Ortega Highway crash early Thursday injured no fewer than two people and left both lanes through that area closed in a SIG alert, according to reports.

The collision occurred between unknown vehicles at approximately 2:45 a.m. with one car reported as going over the side. The incident was right at the county line between Orange County and Riverside County, between San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore, according to California Highway Patrol.

As of 6:45 a.m. Thursday, both directions of the Ortega Highway reopened, following a four hour road closure, CHP said.

The subsequent road closure to attend to the injured parties affected both sides of that narrow stretch of highway, CHP said. A helicopter was utilized to reach the patients, who were trapped in a car that went off a cliff, according to reports from the scene.

There is still no report on the type of vehicles, or the severity of the injuries sustained in the incident.
