A small brush fire lit up some Eucalyptus trees in San Juan Capistrano this evening.
The fire was reported at 8:32 p.m., according to an Orange County Fire Authority tweet. The brush between the bike route and Calle Arroyo at Paseo Estaban was ablaze, and a local resident said the flames leaped higher than the Eucalyptus themselves.
About 40 firefighters were on hand to make quick work of the fire, which was just across the street from homes. The fire was declared under control by 9:02 p.m., according to the OCFA.
Capt. Steve Concialdi said firefighters have not been able to pinpoint the cause, although it may be related to activity from homeless people.
"There's definitely evidence of homeless people in the area," he said.
