Winter Break Is Here In Capistrano Unified School District

Dear CUSD Students, Families, Teachers, Staff, and Administrators,

As we prepare for Winter Break, I’ve been taking time to reflect upon this year and remember all the people and the moments for which I am grateful.

Our teachers opened their classrooms – virtually and in person – in the midst of a global pandemic and over the last nine months have worked tirelessly to develop the best curriculum for each one of our 47,000 students. CUSD teachers constantly strive to give their students and families the best – and it shows in the post-secondary options and successes of our graduates.

Our classified staff and administrators have worked around the clock to make sure that we safely transport, feed, nurse, clean, maintain buildings and landscape, keep attendance, provide for elementary extended learning, and the multitude of roles behind the scenes to keep our school district moving forward. Our staff has quickly pivoted to adjust to any change that has come our way since March and their work helped us open our classroom doors for young people – and keep them open safely through the fall and into this break.

Our principals have never had to operate our 63 school sites like they have this year. Their creativity and passion for teaching matches that of our teachers, and their leadership has been essential to our successes and ongoing improvements as we have adjusted to school in a time of COVID.

Our families have been patient and endlessly flexible. You’ve also provided us with constructive feedback that continues to strengthen our educational programs and improve our work for your children. Your partnership is greatly appreciated!

Finally, our students, who are experiencing school under very different circumstances than we had planned. Your joy for learning, your excitement for being on campus and seeing your teachers and friends, and the knowledge and talent you share via zoom and google classroom, or while sitting in your classrooms, reminds us of why our work is so important. Please know that we will continue to do everything we can to support your learning and continued success no matter what school may look like.

As we close out 2020, there is much for which we can be thankful. I wish each of you a safe and healthy break and a very happy new year. 2021 is right around the corner and I will see you all as we return to school on January 4, 2021.

Estimados Estudiantes, Familias, Maestros, Personal y Administradores de CUSD,

Mientras nos preparamos para las Vacaciones de Invierno, me he tomado un tiempo para reflexionar sobre este año y pensar acerca de todas las personas y los momentos por los que estoy agradecida.

Nuestros maestros abrieron sus aulas - virtualmente y en persona - en medio de una pandemia global y durante los últimos nueve meses han trabajado incansablemente para desarrollar el mejor plan de estudios para cada uno de nuestros 47,000 estudiantes. Los maestros de CUSD constantemente demuestran su esfuerzo por brindar a sus estudiantes y familias lo mejor - y esto se refleja en las opciones postsecundarias y el éxito de nuestros graduados.

Nuestro personal clasificado y administrativo han trabajado las 24 horas del día para brindar a nuestros estudiantes transportación segura, alimentación, servicios de enfermería, limpieza, mantenimiento de las instalaciones y áreas verdes, mantenimiento de la asistencia, proporcionar aprendizaje extendido en las escuelas primarias y una multitud de roles detrás de escena para mantener nuestras escuelas del distrito sigan avanzando. Nuestro personal se adaptó rápidamente a los cambios que se nos presentaron desde el mes de marzo y su trabajo nos ayudó a abrir las puertas de nuestras aulas para nuestros estudiantes - y mantener las escuelas abiertas de manera segura durante el otoño y este receso.

Nuestros directores nunca han tenido que dirigir nuestras 63 escuelas como lo han hecho este año. Su creatividad y pasión por la enseñanza coinciden con la de nuestros maestros y su liderazgo ha sido esencial para nuestro éxito y nuestras continuas mejoras, mientras nos hemos adaptado a la enseñanza en una época de COVID.

Nuestras familias han sido pacientes e infinitamente flexibles. También nos ha brindado comentarios constructivos que continúan fortaleciendo nuestros programas educativos y mejorando nuestro trabajo con los estudiantes. ¡Su colaboración es muy apreciada!

Finalmente, a nuestros estudiantes, que están viviendo esta época escolar en circunstancias muy diferentes a las que habíamos planeado. Su alegría por aprender, su entusiasmo por estar en el campus escolar viendo a sus maestros y amigos y el conocimiento y el talento que comparten a través de zoom y el aula google o mientras están sentados en sus aulas, nos recuerda por qué nuestro trabajo es tan importante. Por favor, tengan en cuenta que continuaremos haciendo todo lo posible para apoyar su aprendizaje y su continuo éxito, sin importar la apariencia de la escuela.
