The Wonders of Bread Making
Learn how to make your own breads, tortillas, and crackers at home!

There is nothing like the smell or taste of freshly baked bread. Store bought bread, crackers, and tortillas are likely to be filled with chemical preservatives and loads of yeast. Industrial scale companies make every single slice and loaf to last on the shelf and in doing so the bread loses flavor, texture, and uniqueness. People should not settle for bland monotonous bread.
Making your own breads is easy, cheap, and delicious. Once you do it a few times the process will not take any longer than getting in the car, driving to the market to buy a loaf of bread, coming home, and opening the package. By making your own bread you know what ingredients it contains and reduce the energy, waste, and pollution that is associated with commercial industrial bread.
The Ecology Center located in San Juan Capistrano hosts a variety of eco-inclined hands on workshops. Saturday April 25 they will be hosting a Bread Baking: Quick Breads and Crackers workshop. The class will teach you hands on how to make your own yeast free breads, tortillas, and crackers at home. You will experiment with using alternative flour products such as wheat, corn, and almond. After the class, participants will be full of delicious breads and be able to take their new knowledge home to their friends and family to contribute toward a healthy sustainable future.
