Worker Crushed to Death in San Juan Capistrano Land Fill Accident

A construction worker was crushed to death on Friday in a freak accident at the Prima Descha Landfill off La Pata.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A construction worker crushed to death at a San Juan Capistrano landfill was publicly identified Saturday.

A 38-year-old Murrieta resident, Ivan Montano, died in the tragic accident according to the Orange County Coroner's Office.

Montano was killed about 3 p.m. Friday at the Prima Deshcha Landfill in the 32200 block of La Pata, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Daryll Milliot.

Investigators found a wrench and hydraulic fluid near the accident scene, leading them to suspect that Montano might have been working on the hydraulic lift of the dump truck before he got crushed under it, Milliot said.

The victim was found crushed between the truck bed and the frame of the dump truck, Milliot said.

He worked for Redhawks Construction Co., said Erika Monterroza of Cal/OSHA, the state agency investigating the death.
