1 Dead In San Leandro Motorcycle Collision
A 25-year-old man died in a crash with a van while riding a dirt bike in San Leandro, authorities said.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — Police in San Leandro were investigating an accident between a dirt bike and a van that left one man dead over the weekend, authorities said Wednesday.
On Saturday around 4:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to report to a collision in the area of Washington Avenue and Castro Street. Upon arrival, a 25-year-old driver of the dirt bike was was found unconscious and suffering from significant injuries, the San Leandro Police Department said in a statement.
The man was taken to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries. The driver of the van remained on scene and was cooperating with police, authorities said.

Police believe the driver of the dirt bike was not wearing a helmet. His identity was not released.
"The San Leandro Police Department offers our condolences to the family of the decedent. This is a staunch reminder for everyone to watch out for one another while on the road," said Lieutenant Matthew Barajas.

The San Leandro Police Department offered the following roadway tips:
- Please watch for motorcyclists and bicyclists as they can often be dressed in dark clothing and in the driver of a vehicle's "blind spots."
- If you're riding a motorcycle, please wear a helmet according to state law.
- If you're riding a bicycle, please stay to the right of the road or use the designated bike lane. Also, please ride your bicycle in the same direction of traffic, according to state law.
- Inspect your motorcycle or vehicle before each ride.
