2 Injured In San Leandro Apartment Fire

The fire might have been caused by someone improperly disposing of a cigarette, fire officials said.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire in a San Leandro apartment early this morning, Alameda County fire officials said.

At about 5:30 a.m., fire crews responded to the apartment in the 4400 block of Sweetwater Drive to find heavy smoke and flames coming from a second-story apartment and the attic above the unit. Crews extinguished the single-alarm fire within 25 minutes, according to fire officials.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the blaze, which also damaged two adjacent units.
