3 People, 2 Dogs Displaced By San Leandro House Fire

Residents threw water onto the cooking oil flames, causing the fire to spread.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — No one was injured, but three people and two dogs were displaced Sunday afternoon by a house fire in San Leandro believed to have been caused by an unattended pan on a stove, Alameda County Fire Department officials said.

Firefighters were called at 4:47 p.m. Sunday to the house fire in the 800 block of Donovan Drive, said fire department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles. An unattended pan with cooking oil heating up on the kitchen stove appears to be where the blaze started, Knowles said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the one-alarm fire, but damage to the kitchen area was extensive, as water was thrown onto the cooking oil fire by residents of the house, causing the fire to spread before firefighters arrived, Knowles said.
