Accused Bank Robber Arrested For San Leandro Heists

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A man suspected in two San Leandro bank robberies was taken into custody Oct. 3 in Stockton, San Leandro police said in a news release Friday.

The robberies happened four days apart in September. Bank of the West in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue was robbed Sept. 26 by a man who passed a demand note to the teller and made off with about $1,500.

Four days later the Fremont Bank branch in the 1400 block of East 14th Street was robbed Sept. 30 by a man who passed a note and fled with about $1,800.

Police unsuccessfully searched the area following both robberies.

Video surveillance and evidence from each scene led police to believe the same man committed both robberies and Jeremy Morton, 30, of Stockton, was identified as the suspect.

By following additional leads, detectives conducted surveillance at the residence of a relative of Morton in 8100 block of Palisades Street in Stockton and arrested him without incident.

Morton is charged with two robberies and remains in custody with bail set at $1.45 million. — Bay City News
