Ammunition Explodes During San Leandro Fire

No firefighters were injured.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A small fire at a San Leandro home was quickly extinguished Thursday just before 10 a.m. Damage was limited to the exterior of the home, according to Alameda County Fire Department.

A vehicle and a camper parked in the backyard were burned.

According to the fire department, "After the fire, firefighters recovered the resident's hand gun and ammunition. Though the fire caused ammunition to discharge, no firefighters or community members were injured. The gun and ammunition were turned over to the San Leandro Police Department for safe disposal."
