SAN LEANDRO, CA — The sound of strumming guitars, trumpets and the stomps of Mexican dancers will fill the Marina Community Center in San Leandro on Friday during the city's Cinco De Mayo celebration.

"Join us in celebrating the heart and soul of San Leandro and experience the joy of cultural connection," city officials said. "¡Una fiesta para toda la comunidad!"

Cinco de Mayo is a commemoration of the Mexican Army's victory over the French during the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is sometimes confused with Mexican Independence Day, which takes place in September.
