SAN LEANDRO, CA — Authorities have identified a girl killed in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday morning on the I-880 Freeway in San Leandro.
The Alameda County Sheriff's Office Coroner identified the girl as 16-year-old Emily Ruby Flores Galicia. The teen's city of residence was not available.
Police say the 16-year-old was riding as a passenger in the back of a BMW 535i sedan going northbound on the freeway when its driver crashed into a Honda Accord around 11 p.m.
The impact ejected the girl from the car and onto the highway, where she was struck by a box truck, authorities said.
The girl died at the scene, while the driver of the BMW ran off, leaving the car behind, authorities said.
The driver of the Honda Accord, and another passenger left behind in the BMW, meanwhile, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. The extent of their injuries was not clear.
Police later arrested the driver of the BMW, who was only identified as a 19-year-old man. They believe he may have been driving under the influence when he crashed, although he has yet to be charged with any crimes.
