SAN LEANDRO, CA — A fan of foraging mushrooms? What about mushroom art?
Game of Shrooms, an "art-n-seek event," is coming to the San Leandro Main Library on Saturday, June 13.
The event was started in 2019 by Bay Area artist Daniel "Attaboy" Seifert and has grown into an annual worldwide movement.
During the event, artists hide their mushroom-themed art around an area while other people seek them out. People are encouraged to keep whatever art they find while out foraging.
For the San Leandro version, artists will have an hour to hide their art within the main library plaza while seekers get help from two surprise special guests, city officials said.
"This FREE, family-friendly event features artists from amateur to professional creating and hiding mushroom-themed art works for others to find and keep," city officials said. "Don’t miss this fun, exciting, and unique opportunity to celebrate art and nature in San Leandro."
In the weeks leading up to the event, the Manor Branch Library will host a "Learn about Mushrooms" event on May 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A "Create Mushroom-Themed Art" event will follow on May 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Main Library.
