SAN LEANDRO, CA — A convicted felon was trying to rob a San Leandro man in Oakland when he shot and killed him, police said.
The Alameda County District Attorney's Office announced a murder charge against Shacory Carnell Daniels, 39, on Tuesday in connection with the deadly shooting.
He also faces a special circumstance allegation that the slaying took place while trying to rob the victim, personal and intentional firing of a gun and possession of a firearm and ammo by a convicted felon, prosecutors said.
It's unclear whether Daniels knew the victim before the shooting. Authorities say the man was walking to his car in the area of 14th and Harrison streets when Daniels shot him.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, authorities said.
Daniels is due back in court on June 30, where he'll be expected to enter a plea, prosecutors said.
