OAKLAND, CA — Police say they rescued a hiker who fell several feet down a wooded hillside at a park in Oakland.

The rescue effort began about 2:15 p.m. Sunday at Leona Heights Park, just north of Merritt College, according to the Oakland Police Department.

The woman had been walking through a steep, slick trail covered by dense trees when she slipped and fell down the hillside, the Oakland Police Department said.

Stranded on a terrain too difficult to navigate on her own, officers responded to the scene and used an aerial device to pinpoint the woman's location, police said.

When they found her, several officers made their way through the treacherous terrain and rescued the woman, police said.

"Without that aerial vantage point, finding her in the dense, tree-covered hillside would have been slower and riskier for everyone involved," police said.
