San Leandro Man Helped Hit-And-Run Suspect Flee Scene Of Fatal Crash: Report

The crash killed Andrea Sanchez, a beloved San Leandro elementary school chef.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A San Leandro man has been arrested and charged on suspicion of helping a friend flee the scene of a deadly May crash, according to a report by The Mercury Times.

Shaohui Wu, 35, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and being an accessory, according to the report. The charge stems from the May 11 crash in the 14400 block of Corvallis Street that killed beloved San Leandro elementary school chef Andrea Sanchez.

Police say Shaohui Wu came to the rescue of Chuliao Wu, 32, after the latter had collided with a car Sanchez was in, according to the report.

Shaohui Wu drove to the scene, picked up Chuliao Wu and went back home, passing by the crash site along the way, as first responders tried to save Sanchez's life, according to the report.

Chuliao Wu, an Oakland resident, was arrested and charged weeks later with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit and run. It's unclear whether the two men are related.

Sanchez was honored with a vigil in the days after her death. She was described as a "beloved staff member, friend, and bright light within our school and throughout the community."

"She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered," school officials said. "Memories of her love, laughter, and kindness bring comfort and peace."
