• Ex-Substitute Teacher Who Mailed Racist Threats To San Leandro School Avoids Prison: Report (patch.com) — San Leandro parents may be alarmed to learn that a former substitute teacher who mailed racist death threats and white powder to Dayton Elementary School in 2023 has avoided prison time. Instead, the 70-year-old man, citing serious health and mental issues, was ordered only to pay $15,000 to the San Lorenzo Unified School District after admitting to the hate-filled letters.
   

• 3 arrested after 12,000 cigarettes stolen from Livermore business, police say (cbsnews.com) — A suspect vehicle tied to the theft of about 12,000 cigarettes from a Livermore business was stopped by CHP near 164th Avenue in San Leandro, where three Oakland residents were arrested. The trio now faces grand theft and conspiracy charges, with two suspects held at Santa Rita Jail and arraignments expected Wednesday.
