• San Leandro man dies after house fire; neighbor tried to put out flames (dailydispatch.com) — A San Leandro neighborhood is grieving after a military veteran in his seventies died following a house fire on Carmel Court Wednesday night. A next-door neighbor, a volunteer reservist with Alameda County Fire, tried to fight the flames with a hose and was burned, but likely helped keep the fire from spreading to other homes.
