SAN LEANDRO, CA — A San Leandro man was arrested in connection with a "violent" robbery at a CVS store in San Leandro last month that left a 69-year-old employee with serious injuries, police said.
Police say Chyance Anderson, 38, entered the store on Thursday, Sept. 10, and began selecting items.
While trying to leave without paying, Anderson hit a 69-year-old employee at the store with his shoulder, knocking her into a refrigerator and leaving her with "significant injuries," according to the San Leandro Police Department.
Surveillance footage, interviews with witnesses, and other evidence led detectives to identify Anderson as the suspected robber, police said.
On Saturday, officers located Anderson in San Leandro and took him into custody in connection with the assault, police said.
Following his arrest, Alameda County prosecutors filed charged Anderson with second-degree robbery, assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, and elder abuse.
The charges also include allegations of great bodily injury involving an elderly victim and aggravating circumstances, police said.
"This was a violent incident that left an elderly victim with significant injuries," San Leandro Police Department Lt. Jeff Walton said in a statement on Wednesday. "I'm proud of the work our detectives did to identify the suspect and bring this case to a successful resolution."
