Attempted Murder Charges Filed In San Leandro Robbery Case

The robbery happened on June 15.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — The suspect in a shooting at a San Leandro liquor store two weeks ago has been charged with premeditated attempted murder, police say.

Caesar Browning, 29, of Oakland allegedly shot at a clerk during a dispute at the 3-Rings Wine & Spirits store at 15257 Hesperian Blvd. at about 7:40 p.m. on June 15, according to police.

Browning entered the store and bought a bottle of alcohol and left the store but quickly returned and got into a dispute with the store clerk over the sale, police said.

Browning left the store a second time but allegedly returned shirtless and brandishing a gun. Browning allegedly fired the gun, narrowly missing the clerk but striking the wall behind him, according to police.

Browning's girlfriend, 28-year-old Victoria Atkinson, then grabbed Browning and pulled him out of the store and they both allegedly fled, police said.

Browning, who works as a plumber, and Atkinson were both arrested earlier this week but the Alameda County District Attorney's Office decided not to file any charges against Atkinson, according to San Leandro police.

Browning, who's being held at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin in lieu of $100,000 bail, was arraigned on Thursday and is scheduled to return to court on July 24 to enter a plea.
