Big Basketball Match-Ups This Week

Some standout players nominated by their coaches for Patch "Spotlight Players of the Week"

Some high-profile match-ups will highlight the high school basketball schedule this week.

Before we get to those, Patch wants to mention two "spotlight athletes of the week" from the East Bay nominated by their coaches.

Dejon Budreax, a junior point guard, at San Leandro High was spotlighted by his coach for his overall production during games. Budreax has averaged 8.5 points, 4.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game this season. He was also named South San Francisco Tournament most valuable player. Coach Sean Mackay said Budreax is a "non-stop motor" on the court whose teammates enjoyed playing with him.

Katie Allio, a senior power forward at San Ramon Valley High, is averaging more than 15 points and 11 rebounds a game. Allio also has an average of three blocked shots per game. Her coach, Hans de Lannoy, also notes Allio is a scholar athlete and co-captain of her team. She's been named to tournament all-star teams three times.

The games to watch this week cover a wide swath of the East Bay.

Tuesday

In perhaps the biggest contest of the night, Las Lomas High's boys team will travel to Dublin High in a match-up of two DFAL contenders. Las Lomas is 11-4 on the season after edging Clayton Valley High on Saturday. Dublin is 10-5 after coming off wins against Dougherty Valley and Miramonte. Both teams are 2-0 in league play. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. at Dublin.

Concord High's boys team travels to Walnut Creek to take on Northgate High. The Broncos are 9-6 on the season after winning three of their past four games. The Minutemen are 10-5 after losing 53-51 to College Park on Friday. The game begins at 7 p.m. at Northgate.

Monte Vista High's boys team ventures to Pleasanton to battle Amador Valley High. Monte Vista is 9-4 on the season, having won five in a row. They stunned De La Salle High, 41-40, last Friday. Amador Valley is 8-6 and will be trying to snap a two-game losing street. The game begins at 7 p.m. at Amador Valley.

Friday

Monte Vista High's girls team will be in Livermore to battle Granada High. Monte Vista is 11-3 on the season. They had won six in a row before being crushed by Carondelet, 80-30, on Friday. Granada is 12-2 after their impressive victory Friday over Amador Valley. The game begins at 7 p.m. at Granada.

Monte Vista's boys team will also take on Granada High. The Matadors begin the week with a 10-3 record after edging Amador Valley on Friday. The Mustangs start the week at 9-4. The game begins at 7 p.m. at Monte Vista.

In the big match-up in the HAAL, San Leandro High's boys team is on the road to take on defending NCS champion Castro Valley High. The Pirates are 11-2 on the season after losing last week to Bishop O'Dowd, 72-50. They had won four in a row before that. The Trojans are 9-3 and have won five of their past six games. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Castro Valley High.
