CalTrans To Discuss Pile-Driving, I-880 Road Work
Two meetings Wednesday in San Leandro will explain why there will will be pile driving at night to widen Interstate 880.
The sounds and inconveniences of highway construction will soon be coming to San Leandro as CalTrans begins work on widening Interstate 880 from Hegenberger Lane through Marina Boulevard to add carpool lanes.
These are known as HOV or High-Occupancy Vehicle lanes.

Construction will mean some inconveniences for commuters along I-880 and noise for residents in west San Leandro neighborhoods.
On Wednesday, January 16, CalTrans will hold two open houses to explain the need for the work, its schedule, and what will be done to mitigate the noise and bother.

During construction, CalTrans will be doing pile driving to support new, wider overpasses at Davis Street and Marina Boulevard.
State officials recently told city council members that some of the pile driving would be done from 10 pm to 5 am during several nights in May.
"Pile driving is literally something that will drive people crazy," Councilman Jim Prola said in a story by the Oakland Tribune.
Whether CalTrans adheres to those plans or makes changes will likely be among the topics that come up at the open houses Wednesday.

Open House: Wednesday, January 16, 2013 – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Woodrow Wilson Elementary School,– Multi-Purpose (Lunch) Room, 1300 Williams Street, San Leandro, CA.
