Chamber Confab Considers Impact of Aging
Monthly Friday morning get-together over coffee offers speakers and chance to network

The impact of aging on businesses and families was the featured topic at the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce's monthly Friday Coffee Connection.
Organized by Jan Woycheshin of J & P Video Productions, the popular gathering books speakers a year in advance.
Friday's presentation by Kati Knox, CEO of Rose Gate Assisted Living, offered tips on a variety of topics, including how employers can anticipate and mitigate the costs of having their top workers distracted by elder care concerns.

"You're looking at real numbers and real costs," said Knox, who advised employers to plan for how to help their most experienced workers deal with senior care issues.
Other topics included the cost of assisted living -- which can run on the order of $45,000 a year -- and how to shop for long term care insurance.

Given the topic, the meeting drew other senior care professionals, including Robbin Beebe of Divine Home Care.
"San Leandro is one of those jewel communities where neighbors are like family," Beebe said, emphasizing the support that residents can often count on in caring for parents here.
The next Friday Coffee Connection will be on October 7 at Carlton Plaza and feature Mary and David Grodin of Grodin Financial.
