Community Invited to Martin Luther King Jr. Rally

The rally, which is free and open to everyone, will be held in Oakland.

Join hundreds of Bay Area residents and dignitaries at the 24th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Rally, slated for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18 in Oakland.

This year’s theme is “Non-Violence, Education and Justice.” Keynote speaker Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley is scheduled to be joined by U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Assemblyman Rob Bonta, Oakland city council members and East Bay Regional Park District Director Doug Siden, among others. Siden will be master of ceremonies.

“This is a day for us to remember the life and times of Dr. Martin Luther King and the changes that have taken place because of him,” said Otis Sanders, chair of the event. “It’s also a time to celebrate the first holiday honoring an African American.”

The rally, which is free and open to everyone, will be held at the ILWU Union Hall, 99 Hegenberger Road, Oakland. Doors open at 9 a.m.Refreshments will be served. The event is co-sponsored by the East Bay Regional Park District, Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center and MartinLuther King Jr. Rally Committee.
