County Appoints New Chief Probation Officer

The county conducted a nationwide search but, in the end, promoted from within.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — The Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint the county's interim chief probation officer as the newest permanent chief following a nationwide search, county officials said.

Marcus Dawal served as interim chief since May of last year and has more than 23 years of experience with the county's probation department.

He started his career in the department as a group counselor and rose over the years to deputy probation officer, unit supervisor, division director, deputy chief and assistant chief before serving in the interim role.
