Embattled San Leandro Councilmember Retires
The councilmember was charged in October 2025 in connection with a corruption scheme involving a housing company.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Bryan Azevedo, a San Leandro councilmember facing federal charges related to a corruption scheme, is retiring, city officials said.
City officials announced Monday that Azevedo had turned in a formal retirement letter. His retirement will be effective as of Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Azevedo made headlines in October 2025 when federal prosecutors accused him of helping a housing company win city contracts in exchange for kickbacks, according to charging documents.

Federal prosecutors charged Azevedo with conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud and making false statements to authorities. He could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted of both charges.
Azevedo's civic career in San Leandro dates back to at least 2014, when he served as the commissioner of the Recreation and Parks Commission. He also served as membership direcotr pf the San Leandro Democratic Club, member-at-large of the Our Revolution San Leandro Steering Committee and a Jefferson Elementary School Site councilmember.

He was elected to the San Leandro City Council in November 2020 and re-elected in 2024
