Girl, 13, Hit By Bullet Fragment In San Leandro Shooting

Authorities were searching for the suspects responsible for a shooting that unfolded within a business and harmed a young girl on Friday.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A 13-year-old girl was injured in the crossfire of a shooting that unfolded in San Leandro Friday. The suspects were still at a large on Saturday, authorities said.

Police responded to reports of the shooting around 11:30 a.m. on the 2200 block of E. 14th Street. Police believe the shooting occurred within a business, the San Leandro Police Department reported.

"At this time, it is unknown if this was a robbery attempt or a direct and targeted shooting," police stated in a release.

During the gunfire, two to three shots were fired and the 13-year-old was injured by a bullet fragment that struck her foot, police said. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The suspects fled the scene.

No other details were immediately released.

"We are hoping for any witnesses to come forward and a quick arrest. This is intolerable, and a young girl was injured as a result of this violence," Lieutenant Matthew Barajas said in a statement Friday.
