Good Samaritans Rescue People When Car Plunges Into Water Off Marina

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Several people were rescued from a vehicle that plunged into the water at the San Leandro Marina Sunday afternoon, police said.

According to San Leandro police Lt. Randy Brandt, at about 2 p.m. police received a report of a vehicle in the water at the marina located at 40 Mulford Point Drive.

According to Brandt, officers arrived and located two people who had rescued several other people from a gold Nissan sedan in the water. The rescuers were in the area and saw the vehicle go into the water, then helped
the victims get out.

Before police arrived, the rescued victims left the scene and the vehicle in the water, which was later removed, Brandt said.

Police do not know yet why the vehicle went into the water, or why the occupants left the scene, Brandt said.
