Hoverboard Suspected Cause Of 2 Alarm San Leandro House Fire

Fire officials are contacting the federal agency investigating hoverboard fires.

SAN LEANDRO, CA - Alameda County fire officials said a hoverboard was in the area where a two-alarm fire started Saturday afternoon in a two-story San Leandro home.

Firefighters responded at 2:59 p.m. to a report of the fire in the 800 block of Glen Drive, fire department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said. Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental but a hoverboard had been charging in a room on the first floor of the home since Friday evening.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but fire investigators will be contacting the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission about the incident, fire officials said.

The fire was contained to the home’s first floor.

Fire officials in Santa Rosa suspect an unattended charging hoverboard caused a home fire that killed two dogs Jan. 19. A hoverboard caught fire and exploded in a Petaluma home last Monday.
