"Hydro" Tagger Soiling BART Area Renovations

Anyone who commutes to and from BART has more than likely seen the word "HYDRO" scrawled in childlike letters, as of late. An innocuous tag is nothing new here, or in any other city, so I can understand when the graffiti is left to languish. However, what I can't understand is when the tagging starts to get out of hand, and no one stops to do anything. With all the money spent on renovating San Leandro Blvd. and the station itself, I'm galled to see this fool continue to vandalize without hindrance.

The "HYDRO" tag is the most prominent graffiti in the area. It's located on walls on the BART platform and a ton of other surfaces. The worst offender is how the word was imprinted into the freshly redone sidewalk, along with some other moron who wrote to "free" someone or other. The sidewalk attacks are the worst and most visible, and not something I think taxpayers wanted when the city spent all that cash to beautify.

What gets me is BART itself. Day in, day out, the BART attendant sits in that booth and does who knows what. I certainly don't see the panhandlers being moved along, or the dealers and ticket scalpers. Clearly, whoever is behind "HYDRO" is coming to and from the station, tagging and being ignored on the security feed. I'm still sore about the BART negotiations debacle, so when I see little in return for all the money taxpayers shell out, it's incredibly irritating. Not to mention inexcusable.

Graffiti isn't the end of the world, and it's unavoidable, but when BART does nothing to help keep an eye on its own facilities, it leaves the area immediately surrounding it vulnerable, too. Little things lead to bigger ones, in the long run, so it's best to get on top of a couple of punks tagging before more join in. SLPD will hopefully keep an eye out for these knuckleheads, and I also would like to see the city go and wipe out the defaced sidewalk, too. I hope San Leandro doesn't let all that hard work and tax dollars go to waste.
