Layoffs Planned: Kraft to Close San Leandro Plant
The plant will be shut down as part of a consolidation plan, following Kraft's merger with Heinz.

More than 100 local residents are about to lose their jobs.
Kraft Heinz announced today that it will close seven food processing plants over the next two years as part of a consolidation plan, including the plant in San Leandro. Kraft and Heinz merged earlier this year.
The San Leandro facility employs between 100-249 people.

All told, 2,600 jobs will be eliminated in the U.S. and Canada. The other plants that are closing are located in Fullterton; Federalsburg, Maryland; St. Marys, Ontario, Canada; Campbell, New York; Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania; and Madison, Wisconsin.
“Our decision to consolidate manufacturing across the Kraft Heinz North American network is a critical step in our plan to eliminate excess capacity and reduce operational redundancies for the new combined company,” Michael Mullen, senior vice president of corporate and government affairs, said in a statement.

The merged company will have 18,000 workers after the layoffs.
