Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing iPads From San Leandro Elementary School

SAN LEANDRO, CA - A Vallejo man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary for allegedly stealing five Apple iPads from a San Leandro elementary school on Saturday, police said.

A San Leandro Unified School District employee responded to James Monroe Elementary School at about 5 a.m. Saturday after being notified of a silent alarm at the school, according to police. When the employee arrived, he saw that the door to the school's music room had been pried open so he called police.

Responding officers set up a perimeter around the school and a team of officers, including a police canine, entered the school to search for a suspect, police said. The police dog then led the officers to a bathroom at the school and indicated that the suspect was hiding inside, according to police.

Officers found that the door was locked and had its "occupied" sign displayed but they ordered the man, who police later identified as 23-year-old Darrell Robinson, to come out. He complied and was arrested without incident, police said.

Officers found a backpack belonging to Robinson that contained gloves, tools and five Apple iPads that they believed were stolen from the school.

Robinson was then arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Officers later confirmed that the iPads had been stolen from the school and returned them undamaged, police said.
