Man Arrested on Suspicion of DUI for Fatal Crash
Pavan Mishra, 28, of Hayward had stopped his 1998 Honda to fix a flat tire when he was hit and killed, according to CHP officials

SAN LEANDRO, CA: A San Francisco man has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence for allegedly striking and killing a man who was fixing his disabled car on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in San Leandro on Tuesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Ulysses Wortham, 62, allowed his 2002 Lexus SUV to drift onto the right shoulder of southbound Highway 880 north of Interstate Highway 238, where 28-year-old Pavan Mishra of Hayward had stopped his 1998 Honda to fix a flat tire at about 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, CHP officials said.
The Lexus hit the Honda before overturning and blocking the two right lanes. The impact forced the Honda into a traffic lane as well. Mishra was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. Investigators later determined that Wortham was allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred, CHP officials said. He was treated for a head contusion and back pain before being booked at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where he is being held in lieu of $175,000 bail.
