Man Charged In San Leandro Church Shooting
He is accused of shooting a statue at a San Leandro church last weekend.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A San Leandro man has been arrested and charged with shooting a statue at St. Felicitas Church. Eric Mullen, 34, is charged with vandalism of religious property, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, felon in possession of a firearm, carry a concealed firearm, resisting arrest, and other special enhancement charges.
He was arraigned Tuesday in Hayward.
Approximately seven rounds were fired at the statue, and at least two rounds had ricocheted into the church building.

Police say there were no congregants or students at the church at the time of the shooting. Investigators have been unable to uncover a motive for the shooting.

“We take these types of crimes very serious,” said Lt. Isaac Benabou. “We will go to great lengths to determine the motive and to ensure that crimes such as these aren't persuaded due to any groups’ belief."
Mullen is due back in court Thursday for his next appearance.
