Man Pleads Not Guilty to Murdering Another Man Near Fruitvale BART
In addition to murder, Darnell Meyers is charged with causing Jackson's death by discharging a firearm.

A 40-year-old Oakland man has pleaded not guilty to a charge that he murdered another man near the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland last Friday night. Darnell Meyers is charged in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Brandon Bernard Jackson in the 3300 block of Elmwood Avenue just before 8 p.m. last Friday.
Paramedics who responded to the shooting took Jackson to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. In addition to murder, Meyers is charged with causing Jackson’s death by discharging a firearm, an enhancement that could add 25 years to his sentence if he’s convicted of murder.
Meyers, who entered his not guilty plea on Tuesday, is scheduled to return to court soon to have a date set for his preliminary hearing, which will determine if there’s enough evidence against him to have him ordered to stand trial.
